The Ward Review

Title: The Ward

Author: Jordana Frankel

Book: (The Ward, #1)

Pages: 465

Rating: 4.5/5

I fall in love with the cover first thing so when I saw it I had to read what it was about. Once I'd done that I realized it sounded great and I got it the first chance that I got. I love apocalyptic books so I really enjoyed this even though some of the characters really made me angry!
The world is underwater and so it is hard to get fresh water to everyone. The Blight is a sickness that is caused by not having enough fresh (healthy) water. Everything has been built up to keep everything dry and so the have boardwalks and they race cars on the roofs and the water. I love the cars they races!
Renata Dane (Ren) is a racer who never looses in the three years she competes. She competes for the money so she can help her sister (foster sister) Aven get the meds she needs to stay alive. Aven has the Blight and so Ren buys stuff so she doesn't feel the pain of the tumour on her neck. She is a mole for the Blues trying to find a fresh water source and on the night of a race a guy shows up and tells her they have a tip. She is to find out if there really is water source there and she thinks she can do that and win the race. She can't.
Callum is a scientist and Darek is her bookie and the guy she really likes. Callum tries to help her find a cure for the Blight while Darek has other plans. She finds a source and so Callum makes a cure but can they distribute all of their cure before Governor Voss and the Chief distribute their "cure". It's a poison to wipe out all of the infected people in the Ward district. She also has to save her sister before it's too late. Will they get to all the sick houses in time? Or is it a trap?
I loved this book and all I can say is there had better be a second book with an ending like that! The ending was kind of disappointing because I thought it was a stand alone book but I still liked it! Oh how some of the characters made me mad! Some had secrets I guessed and others were a complete shock to me. I can't wait to read the second one when it comes out! :D
